senior pet careWestlake Animal Hospital provides specialized senior pet wellness exams for dogs and cats seven years of age or older. We recommend two wellness visits per year. This allows us to detect medical concerns early before they developed into full-blown disease.

Senior Pet Wellness Exam: Twice a year for life

Your senior pet’s wellness exam includes a comprehensive physical exam, vaccination review, and early detection testing. Our senior early disease detection screening includes the following:

  • Intestinal parasite screen
  • Urinalysis
  • Senior blood profile—Screens the liver, kidneys, anemia, electrolytes, and thyroid testing
  • Feline FIV, leukemia virus, and heartworm (for cats)
  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Chest X-ray
  • Heartworm and tickborne disease detection for canines

Senior Pet Vaccinations

After the age of seven, we will review your senior pet to determine the best vaccination options. Not all elderly pets need to receive certain vaccinations, and we are committed to protecting your pet without the risk of over vaccination.

Senior Pet Stem Cell Arthritis Treatment

Arthritis is a common senior pet ailment. Fortunately, there are many treatment options available. We are pleased to offer stem cell therapy for pet arthritis. This cutting-edge therapy has proven results in arthritis symptom improvement. The procedure involves harvesting fat from your pet, collecting stem cells from the fat tissue, and injecting the stem cells into the affected joint.

Please contact us to schedule your senior pet’s wellness exam. For your convenience, our pet concierge service is available for round-trip transportation of your pet to his or her wellness exams. The service can also deliver medication refills or prescription diet food!
